Boy in a Bar

'Boy in a Bar' is an exhibition of abstract paintings by Bryan Reedy and Lucian Strindberg Boyle, held over the course of a week at J/M Gallery in Portobello Road. A private view will be held on the evening of Wednesday, 10 October, featuring a DJ set by the electronic music artist Mssing No.

Taking chance and music into consideration when making their works, both artists set out to question color, form and meaning while always pushing their experiments further into unmapped territory. Bryan Reedy presents two intensely colourful canvases. Over a constructed plain of vivid colour dye, he uses wool felt to create line and form. The forms then seek to push against the edges and depth of colour. Lucian Strindberg Boyle presents two large canvases incorporating graphite and wax into his modernist plain. He explores the notion of layered storytelling by then applying collaged photographs onto the canvas.Lucian’s method of screen-printing with no testing and Bryan’s canvas dyeing demonstrate their resourceful relationship to historical abstract painting. Together, their works engage in a sophisticated visual dialogue that is open to error and resists conclusion.
