Afuera at J/M

Studio Afuera

17 June - 23 June 2026

Studio Afuera returns to J/M Gallery. Founded by three friends, they take inspiration from music, food, art and culture to create pieces rooted in heritage and alive with contemporary meaning. "We design with nostalgia, telling stories from both rural and urban life."

Studio Afuera is a cultural design platform founded between Lima and London by friends from Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. Through clothing, objects, events and collaborative projects, they explore ideas of identity, migration, nostalgia and community.

'Afuera' means 'outside' in Spanish. It speaks to the experience of living between places and carrying heritage across borders. Much of their work is shaped by music, food, memory, craftsmanship and everyday life from the places they come from.

"We work closely with artisans and makers across Perú, and beyond, while also creating spaces for conversation and cultural exchange through installations, dinners, workshops and exhibitions. Our practice sits somewhere between fashion, art direction and community building, often using garments and objects as a way to tell stories and bring people together. For the June event, we’re excited to create an immersive environment that reflects these ideas and continues building connections between contemporary culture and tradition."
