New Works

Crean & Company presents Sophie Thynne

13 November - 17 November 2025

Crean & Company is delighted to present 'New Works', a London exhibition of recent paintings by Sophie Thynne, following her previous sold-out show. The show will also feature ceramics by Kimia Amini.

This show is Sophie's first major presentation in London in recent years, bringing together a body of work created over the last 18 months. Drawing inspiration from the colours of Milton Avery and Mark Rothko, the spirit of Craigie Aitchison, and the surreal scenes of Gertrude Abercrombie, Thynne develops her own visual language: intimate, often autobiographical stories touching on childhood, magic, grief, literature, and legend. Balancing humour and poignancy, her works invite viewers into moments that are both personal and universal.

Nick Crean, founder of Crean & Company, says: “The arresting simplicity and starkness of these small works invites the viewer into a world of private stories and observations. Many are meditative, all are poetic… the strong colour palette alive with emotion and the often tiny characters seem to echo Whitman’s refrain: ‘This hour I tell things in confidence, I might not tell everybody, but I will tell you.’”
