Rachel Tooth: Recent Works
Rachel Tooth
05 March - 11 March 2025

Rachel Tooth is an artist living in London. She was raised in Sri Lanka where her family lived and worked in the tea industry. She was educated in Kodaikanal, in the state of Tamil Nadu in India, and Brighton UK. Rachel grew up surrounded by art, her mother’s influence strong.
After many years of painting murals, and a career in interior design, Rachel started experimenting on canvas in 2001. The influence of growing up in Sri Lanka and India is apparent in the depths and vibrancy of her colour palette. Interested in colour, medium and material, always trying different combinations of colour, texture, light and shade, with a keen sense of spatial awareness. The complex layering of material and colour gives energy and strength to her work.
Tooth is always looking for the abstract underlying the nature of nature; sometimes the abstract emerges, and sometimes nature takes over. The balance between realism and abstract is dynamic. Her paintings are fighting between the raw and polished, the spontaneous and controlled.
Tooth's latest series, 'Floral Abstraction', continues this investigation, using the natural world as both a reference and a departure point. In these works, she deconstructs floral forms, distilling them into gestures of colour, movement, and energy. The interplay of structured shapes and fluid brushstrokes reflects the ever-shifting balance between order and chaos in nature. Through bold compositions and subtle transitions, she captures the ephemeral beauty of flowers - fragile yet vibrant, structured yet free.
The exhibition will be open 11 am - 6 pm and a PV will take place on 06 March from 6 pm - 9 pm.
